[CLASH]
As relations deteriorate between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack on a resort town in Indian Kashmir, troops from both countries exchanged fire on 25 April along the Kashmir frontier, one of the world's most contentious borders.
The terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region of Kashmir killed 26 people earlier in the week, and relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated since, with India blaming the attack on Pakistan-backed Islamist militants. Pakistan denies any connection to the group that carried out the attack.
Since the attack, India has withdrawn from the Indus Waters Treaty between the two countries, which is a diplomatic pact on water rights, and told all of its citizens to leave Pakistan. The Indian military has since began counterterrorism operations in Kashmir, going house to house in search of Islamist militants.
Both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers.
